Is Your Home Burglar Proofed?

Many homeowners’ deepest fear is that their precious homes will be broken into and maybe even thieved. Dealing with a burglary can be scary, expensive, and heartbreaking for homeowners. In order to reduce the chance of your home being broken into, here are a few tips to consider.

  1. Examine your doors and locks. Make sure that the doors at all your entrances are either solid core or metal. Make sure that you have quality, heavy-duty locks installed into each of these doors. It is important to have deadbolt locks installed on each door as well. You’ll also want to make sure that your door has a peephole that is at the correct height so you can see people through it. It may seem obvious, but keep your doors and windows locked at all times.
  2. When you leave your house for an extended period of time like a vacation, make sure it looks like someone is home. Don’t let your mail or newspapers build up outside your house. Install automatic timers onto some of your lamps that will turn on at night so it looks like the home is occupied.
  3.  Keep the outside of your home well-lit. A lighted pathway and doorway area will help to deter thieves.
  4. Install an alarm system. Although these can be expensive, if you’re worried about a burglary, alarm systems are a good way to go. Make sure to post a sign in your yard that declares that alarm system is installed in your house.

Remember that you can never be too careful with home security.  It is important to follow these tips in order to reduce the chances that your home will be broken into.
